The orbit of the close spectroscopic binary ε Lup and the intrinsic variability of its early B - type components ⋆ , ⋆ ⋆

چکیده
We subjected 106 new high-resolution spectra of the double-lined spectroscopic close binary εLup, obtained in a time-span of 17 days from two different observatories, to a detailed study of orbital and intrinsic variations. We derived accurate values of the orbital parameters. We refined the sidereal orbital period to 4. 55970 days and the eccentricity to e = 0.277. By adding old radial velocities, we discovered the presence of apsidal motion with a period of the rotation of apses of about 430 years. Such a value agrees with theoretical expectations. Additional data is needed to confirm and refine this value. Our dataset did not allow us to derive the orbit of the third body, which is known to orbit the close system in ∼ 64 years. We present the secondary of εLup as a new β Cephei variable, while the primary is a β Cephei suspect. A first detailed analysis of line-profile variations of both primary and secondary led to detection of one pulsation frequency near 10.36 c d in the variability of the secondary, while no clear periodicity was found in the primary, although low-amplitude periodicities are still suspected. The limited accuracy and extent of our dataset did not allow any further analysis, such as mode-identification.

Optical spectroscopy of X - Mega targets in the Carina Nebula - V . The spectroscopic binary HD 93161 A and its visual companion HD 93161 B ⋆
We present the analysis of an extensive set of high-resolution spectroscopic observations of HD 93161, a visual binary with a separation of 2. HD 93161A is a spectroscopic binary, with both components clearly detected throughout the orbit. The primary star is most probably of spectral type O8V, while the secondary is likely an O9V. We obtain the first orbital solution for this system, character...
متن کاملX-ray Variability in the Young Massive Triple Θ2 Ori A
Massive stars rarely show intrinsic X-ray variability. The only O-stars credited to be intrinsically variable are θ1 Ori C due to effects from magnetic confinement of its wind, and θ2 Ori A suspected of similar activity. Early Chandra observations have shown that the most massive star system in the Orion Trapezium Cluster, θ2 Ori A, shows rapid variability on time scales of hours. We determine ...
متن کاملBinary Oppositions in the Lyrics of Attar Neishabouri
Binary oppositions are among the essential concepts and components of structuralism and linguistic and semiotic theories that are rooted in human ancient beliefs. One of the fundamental functions of the human mind is the creation of binary oppositions, which are seen in art and literature. The study of binary oppositions in literary works leads to a better understanding of them. This article is...
متن کاملOn the nature of the hard X - ray source 4 U 2206 + 54
The recent discovery of a ∼ 9.5d period in the X-ray lightcurve of the massive X-ray binary 4U 2206+54 has opened the possibility that it is a Be/X-ray binary with an unusually close orbit, which, together with its low intrinsic luminosity, suggests that the system is actually a Be + WD binary, in which a white dwarf accretes material from the dense circumstellar disc surrounding a classical Be...
متن کاملOrbital Evolution in Binary and Triple Stars, with an application to SS Lac
Abstract: We present equations governing the way in which both the orbit and the intrinsic spins of stars in a close binary should evolve subject to a number of perturbing forces, including the effect of a third body in a possibly inclined wider orbit. We illustrate the solutions in some binary-star and triple-star situations: tidal friction in a wide but eccentric orbit of a radio pulsar about...
